Prepping the Classroom
This is what the classroom looked like when I first saw it. |
Everything was jammed packed into the room. It took my mom and I hours to peel back the layers. |
The cabinets in the room were pretty beaten up so I gave them a coat of paint. |
I spiced them up a bit by painting The Very Hungry Caterpillar. |
This cabinet became our art storage, but also serves as a way to retell The Very Hungry Caterpillar. |
I added the life cycle of a butterfly on our other cabinet. |
This is our bulletin board in the quiet room. It opened up the conversation about how we do not jump on the cots. |
Our picture schedule. We refer to this a lot throughout the day. |
My little minions hang up their coats and backpacks here. |
Our door holder is responsible for changing this every time we leave the room. |
The shapes I made use pictures of things the kids are familiar with to help them identify shapes. |
This will be where we display our art. |
The Kiddos Arrive!
Our first week went great! We've been working on establishing our class routine, name recognition, and concepts of print (identifying the parts of a book). We also talked a lot about our classroom rules:
- We play safely and keep our hands to
ourselves. - We listen to the teachers.
- We are nice to others.
- We keep our classroom clean.
- We use inside voices and walking feet.
Our friends worked together to sort all our animals, bugs, cars, and people in the block area. |
They really enjoy our woodworking area. They use prior knowledge to "use" the tools. |
Our friends always have a lot of ideas for what they want to build, but in case they need a few ideas we have several posted on the wall. |
They used the waffle blocks to make tracks for the cars and animals. |
They also used tape to make roads. |
Feeding the bunny - Great fine motor practice! |
Complete with helicopter noises :) |
We can also feed the monkey and the dog. |
Connecting gear manipulatives to make all kinds of things. |
Playing with puzzles and lacing beads. |
A bike made at quiet time. |
A rocket ship made at quiet time. |
Washing the dishes. |
Putting on a puppet show. |
Dramatic Play is another popular area in our classroom. |
Playing with baby dolls. |
Paper Doll puzzles. They really enjoyed making silly outfits. |
Our class plays outside at the same time as Miss Lisa's class. |
They LOVE the parachute. |
Giant Frisbee! |
