Post Office, Balancing & Measuring, Masks & Music, Snowmen, and the Letter P!

Post Office

· We read both fiction and non-fiction books about the post office and mail.

· At Large Group:
· We talked about our feelings, what made us feel different emotions, and what our faces look like when we feel that way.
· We also played a rhyming game using cards with some of the things “Granny” eats in the books we’ve read.
· At Small Group:
· We used a balancing scale and several kinds of  manipulatives to experiment with making predictions, balancing, counting, and comparing.
· We used unifix cubes to build towers and then talked about the towers differences. We put them in order from shortest to tallest.
· At Choice Time:
· We are still enjoying our writing area dramatic play post office. The kiddos have been wearing the mail carrier
costumes and writing and mailing letters all week.

 · This week in our water table we added dish soap. The kiddos have really enjoyed playing in the bubbles and actually asked if they could wash our toys and do the dishes.
They didn't know it, but they were also cleaning our toys. ;)
 · Our kiddos have really been getting into pretending to be animals. We had a class full of puppies, kitties, and “big bad” wolves.
· Mask making has been popular in our art area this week. We’ve had masks that range from super heroes to animals to monsters.
Our little mask making pro!
· We also added a few new musical instruments to our class. They are loving the bongos! We even used the bongos in our planning and recall this week.
We also tried out our new ribbons.
Xylophone Jam Session!
  •  There were a lot of friends drawing pictures and then writing what they drew pictures of. It has been nice to see them give invented spelling a try. :)
She drew me a picture of trees.

They had just finished reading a book based on the movie Frozen. These pictures are their interpretation of the story.

Updated after she added the words. :)
  • Our friends continue to build unique creations in the block area.
They put our new street signs to use.

They built this structure after our balancing activity at small group. It was great to hear them using the language they had learned at group time. They worked very hard to make sure their structure was balanced.
  •  The melting snow this week was a lot of fun to play on. It was more sturdy so it was easier to walk on and make snowballs and snowmen with.
They were building Olaf from Frozen.
· Our letter of the week this week was P. Some of our activities include:
· Practicing saying the sound the letter makes.
· Seeing who has the letter in their name.
· Using white boards to practice writing the letter at large group.
· Making our alphabet book page for each letter at small group.
· Identifying the letter.
· Searching the room for things that start with the letter of the week and feeding them to the “letter monster”.
