Earth Day, Recycling, Fire & Tornado Drills, Language/Literacy Skills, Planting, Choice Time, and the Letter X!

· We read books about Earth Day and Recycling.

· At Large Group:
· After reading and talking about ways we can recycle, we did a sorting activity where we put various kinds of
recyclable objects into the correct containers.
· We took part in both a fire drill and a tornado drill and went over how we stay safe at school.

Tornado Safety Position.
· At Small Group:
· We worked on identifying opposite words (like night and day) and words/objects that go together (like hammers and nails).

· We worked on identifying the number of sounds/syllables in words by clapping.
· We also worked on identifying positional words (like above, below, next to, under, over).

· After reading “The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle, we planted several different kinds of flower seeds. We will be watching them grow over the next several weeks.
We planted several varieties of flowers and herbs.
We planted gladiolus bulbs in cups filled with pebbles so we can see the roots growing. When the time comes, we will take them outside to plant.
· At Choice Time:
· As the weather is getting nicer, we bought many new things to play with outside and we have more things ordered. We are really enjoying using all our new things!

Bubbles!

· We created two new cardboard constructions this week: a house and a rocket ship. The kiddos really love
decorating and playing in our creations. We have plans to make a car next.
Blasting off into space. She was shaking the rocket and counting down.

The even added "wallpaper" inside the house.
 · Our letter of the week this week was X.
· Some of our activities include:
· Practicing saying the sound the letter makes.
· Seeing who has the letter in their name.
· Using white boards to practice writing the letter at large group.
· Searching the room for things that start with the letter of the week and feeding them to the “letter monster”.
· Making our alphabet book page for each letter at small group.
· Identifying the letter in the dry erase board
sentence.
