Emotions, Homes, and Spirit Week!

Thank you for participating in Spirit Week. We had a lot of fun this week!

This week we talked a lot about our feelings and emotions.

At large group we read the story "The Way I Feel" and talked about the various things that make us feel scared, happy, sad, and angry. We acted out each of these emotions several times this week. We talked about what the "Safe Place" is for and brought over items from the "Safe Place" (stress balls, stuffed animals, feelings chart, discovery bottles) and talked about how we could use them. We also practiced our breathing techniques (see below).

At small group we wrote in our journals and drew pictures of things that made us feel scared. We used magazine pictures to create emotion collages. The kiddos cut out faces and talked about how they thought that person felt. We used play dough and various art area items to create play dough faces. They enjoyed guessing what emotion people created on their play dough face.

We also talked about homes this week. We shared pictures of our houses (these will be on our homes bulletin board for a while and then we will be adding them to our block area so the kiddos can build with their own home). At small group we used pattern blocks to create houses.

She made an angry face with her blocks.
Planning and Recall:
They love these PVC phones. They amplify their voices so everyone can hear what they say.

Dramatic Play:

Kitty cats were a popular dramatic play role this week.

They were getting married. They even requested music for their first dance. ;)

 Music Area:

We had a Disney music dance party on Disney Day.

Block Area:
I didn't get a picture of it, but a group of us built a really intricate road and tunnel system. They played there for quite a while.
Toys and Games:

Art Area:

Collages were very popular this week.

Finger painting - with paint brushes.
Writing Area:
They were a little skeptical about our new dry erase wall in the writing area, but after the 15th time of me saying "yes, it's alright." they finally embraced writing on it.

They have been loving on these keyboard this week.
 Sand and Water Area:

I love all the crazy hair day do's in this picture!

They love sweeping up the sand almost as much as they love playing in the sand.
Hat Day:

Many of our kiddos made their own hats. It was pretty fun to see what they all came up with.

Outside Play:
We had an amazing outdoor adventure where we traveled to Neverland. We were pirates (complete with pirate talk "Arrrr! Shiver me timbers"), swam with mermaids, explored a cave, walked the plank, ran from Capt. Hook, and flew with the help of Tinkerbell's magic fairy dust.
Everyday is an adventure at preschool!

Meal Time:

 Teachers play dress up, too.
Minnie and Pocahontas :)
